Mental health nursing or psychiatric nursing is a specialized field of nursing that helps handle individuals with mental illnesses like depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or psychosis, allowing them to overcome, recover, and improve their ways of life.

Along with their nursing degree, they require a specialization to assist people with care. Ideally, they may work with groups, individuals, families, communities, or individuals and people who generally take up this profession are different from those who wish to become general nurses. First, they are proud of their profession, second, they believe they play a humanitarian role in society.

Mental health nurses form a crucial part of the healthcare system, positively affecting the lives of thousands of patients every day. The role can be exhausting both physically and mentally but offers huge rewards, as nurses work to directly improve the lives of their patients on a daily basis.

We are looking for a Registered Mental Nurse to care for our patients and facilitate their speedy recovery. You will also be responsible for educating them and their families on prevention and healthy habits.

The ideal candidate will be a responsible and well-trained professional able to give the best nursing care with little supervision. You will be compassionate and cool-tempered. You will also be able to follow health and safety guidelines faithfully and consistently.

The goal is to promote patient’s mental well-being by providing high quality nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients by discussing their mental health conditions with them.
  • Administering patients’ medications and treatments – and monitoring results..
  • Work to understand the source of patients’ disorders.
  • Conduct one-on-one therapy sessions.
  • Prepare patients’ records and maintain them effectively.
  • Caring for patients with acute conditions – building relationships and responding to their physical and emotional needs, while delivering effective care.
  • Dealing with the specific symptoms of mental illness, de-escalating stressful situations and helping patients overcome challenges.
  • Interacting with patients’ families and other care staff – offering advice and information on patients’ conditions.
  • Preparing and maintaining patients records, producing care plans and risk assessments.
  • Organizing group therapy sessions, including social and artistic events, aimed at promoting patients’ mental recovery

Requirements and skills

  • Proven experience as a registered nurse
  • Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of emergency care
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and willingness to follow them at all times
  • A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Responsible and compassionate
  • Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Patient with excellent problem-solving skills
  • BSc or other diploma from a nursing program
  • Valid nursing license
  • Using good judgement
  • Offering advice
